Liverpool fullback Robertson admits: My challenge was poor and misjudged

Liverpool fullback Andrew Robertson has released a statement after his dismissal in their 2-2 draw at Tottenham.

The Reds left-back was initially shown a yellow card for a challenge on Emerson Royal in the 2-2 draw of the Premier League clash on Sunday.

However, after being instructed by VAR to consult his pitchside monitor, referee Paul Tierney changed his mind and showed the Scotland captain a straight red card.

On social media, Robertson has sent an emotional message to Liverpool fans, but refused to be drawn into commenting on the game's other incidents.

“I was brought up to take responsibility when you've done something wrong and I have to admit my challenge was poor and misjudged," wrote Robertson.

“My mistake giving them the chance to make the decision. Gutted!

“Probably best I don't speak about other things in the match, other than to say how proud I am of the rest of the team.

“Me aside, the boys were different class in unbelievably difficult circumstances.

“Support unreal as well in difficult times! Wish we could have rewarded it with a win!

“Stay safe, YNWA."
