Liverpool fullback Glen Johnson was England's success story from their 1-1 draw with the USA on Saturday.
Johnson was superb throughout the 90 minutes and finished the game with a thick lip.
"It was an elbow from Clint Dempsey," said Johnson, through a mouth which was swollen and cut where his lip had been smashed into his teeth. "I don't think he meant to do it. There's no stitches. They've told me it will heal on its own but I don't think my daughter will recognise me.
"We would have loved to win the first game. It is one of the most important games but it wasn't to be, so we're happy with a point. The team did enough to win and the boys are a bit disappointed.
"The manager was calm. He said he was happy."
