Liverpool have emerged as favourites to sign Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to French publication L'Equipe.

The France international, who suffered relegation with Newcastle last season, is not keen on playing in the Championship and is expected to switch clubs this summer.

The Magpies have already turned down a £9million offer for the 26-year-old from Hamburg, but it is believed that a bid in the region of £12m will be enough to convince them into selling their player.

The Reds signed Sadio Mane from Southampton for £34m this week and are still on the hunt for a midfielder, according to reports, with Piotr Zielinski and Mahmoud Dahoud also on the radar alongside Sissoko.
