Liverpool facing dismal Wembley record (& Oliver) in Spurs showdown

Liverpool must fight recent history if they're to win at Tottenham this weekend.

The Liverpool Echo says Liverpool are enduring their worst ever run at the national stadium ahead of Saturday's return for a crunch Premier League showdown with Tottenham.

A beaming Kenny Dalglish lifted the League Cup there after Cardiff City were beaten on penalties in February 2012 and two months later Andy Carroll's late header sealed a dramatic win over Everton in the semi-final of the FA Cup.

However, since then the Reds have lost their last four competitive visits to Wembley.

Further working against the Reds is the appointment of ref Michael Oliver for the game.

Oliver, one of the top flight's most experienced referees, has taken charge of games involving Liverpool more than any other club with 33. Liverpool have won just 14.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have had Oliver 29 times and won 18. They are currently on an eight-game winning streak in matches in which Oliver has been the man in the middle.
