A scoreless draw against Swiss outfit St Gallen was not too disappointing for Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee. "It's always difficult in the first game, and we wanted to give everyone 45 minutes," Lee told the club's official website.

"We got a lot out of the game. They started their preparations before us and played their first league game on Saturday, when they got a good win over Basel, so we knew they would be ahead of us in terms of fitness. So, we equipped ourselves very well.

"There's always positives and negatives to be taken from every training session - and that's what we consider this game to be."
