Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk was delighted to be part of victory over Aston Villa.

A Mohamed Salah penalty was the difference for the Reds win.

Van Dijk said: "I enjoy every game that I play. It was always going to be a tough game. We knew we'd have to be patient and fight for every ball. That's the least you have to do against this team. They created some moments of danger but not many big chances I feel right now. I think we deserved the win.

"It's always a good feeling when it hits the back of the net. I think we should have done better even after getting the goal to keep the ball and play through them. We didn't do it too well. But it's 1-0 and a clean sheet so we can't be too hard on ourselves."

On title race, he also stated: "I don't know. That's something we shouldn't talk about. We focus on the game ahead of us and Villa was a tough game. We got the three points and that's all that matters. The season is long. So many twists and turns to go. The three teams are going quite well at the moment but the season is long."
