Liverpool defender Van Dijk upset with Nations League commitments

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has injury fears during Holland's Nations League campaign.

The Reds centre-back has played 59 games for club and country since returning last summer after nine months out with an ACL injury.

And he believes the relentless schedule is putting at risk the fitness of players after such a busy campaign and called on the authorities to consult them in future years.

"It's strange that there are four games after a long season," said Van Dijk. "But it is decided now and we have no possibilities to change that decision.

"But I believe that, during these four games, there is more chance of injuries after a long season.

"That has to be observed, to be analysed and players should have an input in that (the fixture list), I believe."

Van Dijk played in last night's win in Belgium.
