Liverpool's search for another central defender will all depend on whether or not Mamadou Sakho receives a ban from UEFA, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The French defender was given a 30-day provisional suspension by European football's governing body after being found guilty of taking a fat burning substance.

The ban ended last month but Sakho is still to learn if he will be hit with a further sanction.

His defence was that the supplement should perhaps not even be on the prohibited list due to some apparent scientific evidence on its effects.

While Sakho's future remains in the air, the Reds will reportedly not actively seek any prospective deals for centre-backs having already signed Joel Matip from Schalke.
