Liverpool defender Joe Gomez admits his clash with England teammate Raheem Sterling has changed the way he approaches things.
Gomez was involved in a clash with Sterling during Liverpool's 3-1 win over Manchester City at Anfield in November.
The Reds defender was happy a line had been drawn under the incident following the game, but Sterling reacted angrily when offered a handshake by his England teammate as they convened at St George's Park for international duty.
Sterling attempted to get Gomez in a headlock and the former Charlton centre-half was left with a scar under his right eye.
Gomez accepted Sterling's apology and supported manager Gareth Southgate's decision to keep the Manchester City forward in the squad.
“It was a difficult period," he told The Athletic. “I enjoy football, it's my passion, but there are a lot of things that come with it, like the limelight. That's the thing that I didn't enjoy.
“If anything it has made me a bit more stand-offish.
“But in terms of the actual situation (with Sterling), what happened happened. We spoke. It was done. As a team it was done. So in my head it was done."
He added: "With what happened brings experience. I went out to train and I knew that the first session after it came out publicly, eyes were going to be on me. I was never used to that before.
"So, good or bad, it was an experience."
