AS says the 31-year-old was on the Reds' longlist after seeing Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip ruled out for the season.

Roma and Juventus are also keen on the Spain international.

And Liverpool's interest may go cold now with Van Dijk and Gomez due back for next season.

Nacho has proved crucial for Real Madrid this season as skipper Sergio Ramos has battled with a series of injuries.
