The win pushed Leipzig into third place on the Bundesliga table, two points above Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen.

Jhon Cordoba put Cologne ahead early, but goals from Patrick Schick, Christopher N'Kunku and Werner put the game out of reach.

Anthony Modeste scored with a precise long-range strike to pull one back for Koln, before Dani Olmo restored the two-goal advantage for the visitors.
