Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk insists he's not obsessing about the Ballon d'Or.

After winning the Champions League last night, Van Dijk was asked if he felt he should win the gong for the season.

“I think (Lionel) Messi is the best player in the world. He should win the Ballon d'Or," said Van Dijk after the 0-2 victory over Tottenham .

“I'm not working on that. But if I win, I will gladly receive the prize. But Messi is supposed to win. He is the best player in the world, even though he was not in the final."

He added: "We must be hungry. We will close this season with the Champions League, but in July everyone will start again at zero.

“We have to fight Manchester City again. We are ambitious and want to experience this type of evening more often."
