Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was grateful for the chance to share the moment of winning the Champions League final with his father on Saturday.
Brian Henderson has recovered from going through a long treatment for throat cancer, being given the all-clear in the process. And Jordan was understandably emotional after sharing the moment with his father on the Wanda Metropolitano pitch.
“I am just glad I can put a smile on his face,“ he said of his father, after the pair shared a moving post-match embrace at the side of the pitch that quickly went viral.
“My dad has been through a lot out over the past few years, not only with himself but with his family. He's all good, health-wise, now. Tonight he will be so proud to see us win the game and win the Champions League. It will mean the world to him.
“It's obviously emotional. We have come a long way as a team and we have had so many knockbacks and to finally get over the line it is an amazing feeling and one that we will remember for ever. It's so special."
