Liverpool captain Henderson desperate to end being second best

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is desperate to end being second best.

Liverpool's captain leads his club into a second successive Champions League final having played in a World Cup semi-final and been in one of the most exciting title races in Premier League history.

“Obviously it is difficult – really difficult," said Henderson, as he looked back on a catalogue of near misses.

“I know people will look at me as a person and say, 'You didn't get over the line in the Champions League or World Cup semi-final or whatever'.

“But the way I look at it is that it isn't about me, it's about the teams I have played in. Everything in football is to do with the team.

“And what we have been through has given us even more determination and drive to improve, to try to get that opportunity again – and to take it.

“Last year, after losing the Champions League final, it was so difficult to take – but you have to use that disappointment in the right way.

“It was the same with the World Cup. Each time I have always reacted well."
