Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hailed the performance of Joe Cole on his debut last night.
Cole as involved in everything during the 90 minutes and he also got the seal of approval from the Kop with a standing ovation at the end of the game.
Gerrard told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Our fans pay good money to see us play good football and I thought Joe was brilliant in his first game at Anfield.
"I'm sure there's plenty more trickery for our fans to see from him in the future.
"The fans here appreciate Joe is a good player who will create goals and score them. They also saw a different side to his game tonight as his work rate was phenomenal and we need more of that.
"We are hoping this will be a successful season for the club and I'm sure Joe will enjoy it here and have a big part to play.
"I know Joe is enjoying his Liverpool career so far. He wants success and so do we, and hopefully we will get that in the future.
"I thought there was a lot of positives to take from this game and it was good to get the minutes in to get us back to full fitness."
