Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says skipper Steven Gerrard deserves the Premier League title before he retires.
Rodgers could not think of a more fitting player, though, to finally break his duck and pick up a Premier League medal 16 years after making his Liverpool debut.
He said: "He's peerless in many ways. Working with him and having the chance to work with him has been incredible. To get the feeling of what he is like as a man as well. It has not been for him a lack of quality. He is up there with the best players ever to have graced the Premier League.
"But he has never had the opportunity to play in teams to go on and win it.
"He understands how difficult it is to win. Let's hope we can do that one day for him. It would be incredible for someone like him to do that.
"Nobody would argue anyone would be more deserving than him."
