Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli was fit to face Chelsea yesterday.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers instead placed his trust in 18-year-old Jerome Sinclair to provide back up to Rickie Lambert on the bench at Stamford Bridge.
"No, no [he's not injured]," Rodgers told Sky Sports before the game. "Just not selected.
"We've got some young strikers coming through like Sinclair doing fantastic in our youth and reserve teams.
"Mario's just not in the squad."
