Liverpool boss Klopp: Why should I pity Ajax? Nobody has to!

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists he has no sympathy for Ajax over their raft of summer departures.

Liverpool meet Ajax in their Champions League opener tonight in Amsterdam.

"Why should I feel sorry for Ajax?" Klopp told Ajax Life. "If Ajax played in the English league, it should strengthen itself. But Ajax plays in the Netherlands. That is an essential difference and offers very different challenges, but also very different possibilities. I love the Eredivisie by the way.

"They do wonderful things with their own youth. The training is really top, top, top. The players who come from their own youth are sold for a lot of money and the next talent is ready again. I don't have to feel sorry for that. Nobody has to!

"Ajax is a wonderful club, with a wonderful philosophy. And Erik ten Hag is a great coach. That combination makes Ajax a great club. Although the philosophy has changed a bit, as far as I can tell: there is more experience on the field. Dusan Tadic joined, some boys returned.

"The ambitions of Ajax have not diminished. And don't forget, Ajax was in the semi-finals and yes, after that the club lost some players, but when I see the team it has, there is really a top team and there I have no pity at all. Ajax's philosophy is a wonderful one."
