Klopp of course, created perhaps the greatest Borussia Dortmund team of all time, but saw that ripped apart as Europe's wealthy elite circled to cherry-pick his brightest talents.
Now, his current squad has surpassed them, and he said: "My opinion is clear - top squad, best I ever had, one of the (best) is this club's history.
"We grew together as a group and as a team, and (that is why) I rank them that high.
"I had outstanding squads in my life, thank God. The Dortmund squad of 10/11, 11/12 was insane.
"The only problem was we only had it for two years and then the football world thought the Dortmund journey was long enough so now let's pick a few (of their players).
"That doesn't happen here. We can keep them and that means we can build on the things we did together and that makes a difference."
He also said, "We talk about the Olympics at the moment and there we can talk about one, two and three as a great achievement. In football it is only one; you win it or not.
"We fight with the best team for a long time in City and a lot of other really good teams who are close to that (level) for success. We need the quality we have for that. If we didn't have the quality we couldn't be near.
"But (it is) because of the character the boys showed I rate them really highly. We know the fact it is a really good squad but in the end you have to deliver and fight."
