Liverpool boss Klopp rules out fast-tracking whizkids - even Elliott

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ruled out fast-tracking their whizkids this season.

Klopp blooded a handful of his brightest young stars during Liverpool 's pre-season including 16-year-old new signing from FulhamHarvey Elliott, Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg, striker Bobby Duncan and Algerian defender Yasser Larouci.

"“The kids fly when we fly. But it's not like they can make the difference for you. It's not like that" said Klopp, who used seven of his best kids against Lyon in their last tour friendly in Geneva.

“They need time for different reasons but it's all good. Pre-season was really good and it was very nice for them to do it - they helped us a lot especially against Lyon and we improved a lot.

“But making a 27 player squad of it for the new season is a bit too optimistic. Harvey is 16, Sepp 17, Bobby and Yasser both 18.

“They are youth players, they need the time. And they will get the time - but they showed wonderful signs."
