Liverpool boss Klopp plays down Man Utd showdown; admits Matip could make it

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has played down the significance of Sunday's clash with Manchester United.

United go to Anfield three points clear of the champions.

But Klopp says, "Winning a football game against United is enough in itself, so there is not an add on. We play at home against United and want to win.

"They have got the points they deserve, we have ours and the season still has a long way to go.

"We don't think about other teams or how the table looks at the moment, we just try to win our football games, and for this we need to perform at our highest level because United are good, they always were."

Meanwhile, Joel Matip has been sidelined for nearly three weeks with a groin injury but is now ready to resume full training. Captain Jordan Henderson is among those who have deputised at the back in his absence.

“Joel [Matip] is close. Does it make sense to throw him in a game after one or two sessions he hasn't done yet? I don't know. We have to have a look how he trains," said Klopp.

"But we have different solutions. Hendo is important for midfield so we just have to see. But nothing decided yet."
