Liverpool boss Klopp: Moreno deserved chance against Cardiff

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was delighted with Alberto Moreno's performance in victory over Cardiff City.

Andrew Robertson was named on the Liverpool bench with Moreno handed his first league start of the season.

And writing in his column for the official matchday programme, Klopp praised Moreno for his patience and commitment.

Klopp said: “Aside from recognising having the right attitude is essential, I think the last two fixtures have also demonstrated the importance of every player here knowing they must be ready at all times to contribute.

“At Huddersfield and against Red Star we made changes and players who've had to be patient were given opportunity during matches.

“I say 'during matches' because the opportunity to contribute is there every day at Melwood – and credit to these boys, they do exactly that.

“But I know players crave the chance to show that contribution on game-day, so it is fantastic as their manager when you see them maximise it.

Alberto Moreno has been outstandingly good since the summer through until now, but his contribution so far has been mainly away from the public gaze.

“This is because Andy Robertson has been brilliant for us.

“When Albie came on against Belgrade he encapsulated what is needed if we are to achieve our goals."
