Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is eager to see Joel Matip secured to a new deal.
The London Evening Standard says there is no doubt over whether Liverpool want to keep him, with Klopp keen to extend the contract of a player who has shaken off injury problems and is entering his best years.
The question now, however, is whether Matip will consider his early-season status as back-up to both Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren before agreeing to extend his stay.
The Reds' desire to go further than the first stage of both the League Cup and FA Cup next term should at least provide more games for their plentiful options across the park.
But it is probably their standing as champions of Europe that makes a lengthy stint at Anfield most appealing for any player, Matip included.
