Liverpool boss Klopp hails 'super, outstanding' Minamino debut

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was delighted with an "outstanding" debut from Takumi Minamino in their FA Cup triumph over Everton.

The Japanese international, who scored at Anfield earlier in the season for his former club, started in place of Roberto Firmino as the central focal point to Liverpool's attack, flanked on either side by Harvey Elliott and Divock Origi.

The Reds claimed a 1-0 win over the Toffees thanks to a wonder-strike by youngster Curtis Jones - scored moments after Minamino had been substituted.

"He was super, outstanding, exactly the player we wished for," said Klopp.

"In your first game for a team you don't know, it's not a settled team, it's already difficult, this team we threw together on the pitch with basically two sessions together, to show this sort of understanding, his football skills were exceptional and his attitude was outstanding."

Asked about the reason behind Minamino's substitution, Klopp said: "He led the chasing pack so often in.

“He didn't look tired, but we don't know the player that well yet so we took him off."
