Liverpool have made the decision for midfielder Thiago Alcantara to go under the knife.
The 32-year-old has only played 28 games this season due to various injury issues.
Now his manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Thiago will have surgery on a long-standing hip problem with the aim of being fit for pre-season.
"Thiago will have surgery and is out for the rest of the season," said the Reds boss to reporters.
"It's the same issue he was recently out for a couple of months with.
"Do I expect him to now be fit for pre-season? Yes, that's why we do it now."
