Liverpool boss Klopp backs Benteke action for penalty at Palace

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp does not believe Christian Benteke simulated after a touch saw him go down in the penalty area on Sunday.

The Belgian striker received a slight touch from Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney in the sixth minute of stoppage time at Selhurst Park with the scoreline at 1-1.

There was plenty of conjecture over the incident as referee Andre Marriner had to confer with linesman Scott Ledger to determine if there was enough contact but Klopp was convinced Benteke did the right thing to win the penalty which he converted to give ten-man Liverpool a hard-fought come-from-behind victory.

"You saw (the penalty incident)? I'm sure. If you run and you get this touch, you fall down," said Klopp who also saw Roberto Firmino pounced on an error from Eagles keeper Alex McCarthy to equalise in the 72nd minute.

"Try it. Both things. With the knee and with the foot. In my opinion, there was more than enough of a touch.

"We did well. We needed a bit of luck, of course. We deserved the luck at 1-1, forcing this mistake and using it to score our goal."
