Liverpool boss Benitez hoping for American cash boost

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is hopeful of a transfer cash boost from the club's American owners.

The Daily Star Sunday says Liverpool's owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have landed £645m with the sale of sports franchises in America.

Benitez said: "We have to work together trying to reduce the debt and also get the team doing well on the pitch.

"We have to work with certain amounts of money. Sometimes you have enough. Sometimes you don't have enough."

A chunk of the cash will help cut Liverpool's £235m debt and Gillett and Hicks plan to introduce third party investors to part-finance a new stadium for the club.
