Liverpool were dealt a major blow when defender Joe Gomez suffered a knee injury in England U21's 3-0 win over Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

The 18-year-old has suffered a knock to his knee that is not as serious as first expected after initial assessments suggested that the player might have damaged his ligaments.

The full extent of the injury will be clearer after the player is assessed by Liverpool medical staff on Wednesday, but he is expected to miss manager Jurgen Klopp's debut game against Tottenham on Saturday.

The full-back has already made five league appearances for the Reds since his move from Charlton Athletic in the summer.
