Liverpool back in for Koln left-back Hector

Liverpool are again preparing to go after Jonas Hector after suffering further disappointment at left-back.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Jurgen Klopp is desperate to sign a left-sided full-back after Alberto Moreno sustained a hamstring injury against AS Roma in their pre-season friendly in St Louis.

While the injury is not serious, the German does not want to rely on veteran midfielder James Milner having to fall back into that position and is keen to lure Hector from FC Koln to strengthen his defence.

The Germany international is valued at £20million and would command a guaranteed starting spot if he were to make his way to Anfield.

Regarding Liverpool's business for the reminder of the transfer window, Klopp said: "Is the activity all over? I have no idea. I don't think so. We will see what happens.

"What you saw (in St Louis against Roma) was an example of how you can't defend; leaving spaces so big you could have cut grass in between."

Klopp also touched on the situation at central defence which sees Mamadou Sakho, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and makeshift centre-back Lucas Leiva all under injury clouds.

"Gomez, Sakho and Lucas are all injured so of course we haven't got enough centre backs at the moment," he added.

"There have been too many games with not enough centre backs."
