Liverpool achieved goal in moving through to ‘small Champions League’ - Klopp

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has labelled the next phase of the Europa League as a mini Champions League.

After the Reds claimed top spot in Group B courtesy of a 0-0 draw at FC Sion on Thursday night, Klopp spoke of achieving his goal of finishing at the summit of the group as they now look ahead to the Round of 32.

At this stage, third-placed Champions League teams such as Manchester United, FC Porto, Bayer Leverkusen, Olympiacos and Sevilla drop down to Europe's second tier which only heightens the competition according to Klopp.

"We wanted to be first after this game and that is what we did," the German said.

"A few weeks ago it was far away from us that we could reach this place but we did it and it is really good.

"We will see how important it (first place) is - there are a lot of good teams in second place and also teams from the Champions League.

"Everyone will have to change their mind about this tournament now as everyone will see it is something like a small Champions League."
