Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum says his goalscoring performance for victory over Bournemouth was done under extreme duress.
The Dutchman scored a delicious lob to put Liverpool 2-0 up, despite two days on the Anfield sick-list with a stomach upset.
It forced the 28-year-old midfielder into quarantine 24 hours before the game — and prompted an emergency dash off the pitch at half-time.
“I didn't train on Friday and I didn't sleep at the team hotel," said Wijnaldum. “This morning, I was still weak and had diarrhoea. And at half-time I had to run off to get to the toilet. Luckily, I managed to control it!
“What gives me confidence in Liverpool? Everything. The whole team. We did two draws in a row and that didn't feel that good. But we must not forget we are top of the league. It could be better. But we must appreciate where we stand."
