Mohamed Salah is to be given a day off from training after coming on as a late substitution during Liverpool's 0-0 Champions League encounter against Porto in order to remain fit for his side's Premier League clash against Manchester United.

Heading into the second leg of the Champions League last-16 clash on Tuesday, the Reds already had a 5-0 aggregate lead and as a result, a decision was taken to only play Salah for 20 minutes against Porto.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that playing the in-form Egyptian was not a mistake. He said: "Everyone thinks about injuries but that can happen all the time.

"Now we thought we give him, if possible, the last 20. If it is 15, he trains again on Wednesday. I told him if he really runs a lot, he does not have to train so I thought he was quite lively."
