Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst says it was a plan to bring on Aaron Ramsey specifically for the penalty shootout in Wednesday's Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Ramsey replaced Fashion Sakala after 117 minutes of play, with the game tied at 1-1.
The Juventus loanee missed the decisive penalty that handed the trophy to Eintracht Frankfurt.
"Yeah it was [a substitution for the penalty shootout]," Van Bronckhorst told reporters in his post-match press conference.
"We prepared well for the penalties. Borna [Barisic] had to go out, he's one of the first penalty kickers.
"We had players who wanted to take a penalty and others who didn't want to take a penalty, and we had to adjust it."
