Antoine Griezmann has explained his respect for Uruguay was the reason he didn't celebrate his goal in France's 2-0 win over La Celeste on Friday.
The Atletico Madrid star bagged Les Bleus' second goal thanks to a howler from Fernando Muslera. Didier Deschamps' side will now play either Brazil or Belgium in the semi-finals.
When speaking reporters in Nizhny Novgorod after the game, Griezmann added that the presence of Atleti teammates Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez in the Uruguay team contributed to his decision not to celebrate.
"Well I didn't celebrate that goal because when I started as professional footballer, I was supported by Uruguayan who taught the good and bad in football. So I have a lot of respect for Uruguay.
"And I was also played against friends, so out of respect I thought it was normal not to celebrate my goal."
