Lippi's Guangzhou to meet Seoul in AFC Champions League final

Guangzhou Evergrande have become the first Chinese side in 15 years to reach the final of the Asian Football Confederation Champions League.

Marcello Lippi's side will face South Korea's FC Seoul in the two-legged decider on Friday October 25 in Seoul with the return bout to be played in Guangzhou on November 9.

Evergrande are into the last phase of the ACL after beating Japan's Kashiwa Reysol 8-1 on aggregate thanks to Wednesday's 4-0 victory at home, whilst Seoul are through after a 4-2 aggregate win over Esteghlal after the 2-2 draw in Iran.

Lippi, who has won the World Cup with Italy and UEFA Champions League with Juventus, was delighted he had lead the Chinese Super League club to the final of the prestigious competition.

"It's very positive having the team in the final because it adds to the growth that I've seen in the team that won the championship last year, and now we want to go on and win the title," said Lippi.

"Reaching the final is something that's extremely positive and we will put all our efforts into winning the title for the club and the fans and everyone else here.

"We have tonight put in a very compact performance and that's what you need to get through these matches and this is what helped us tonight. I think a team playing this way completely deserves to reach the final."
