Lerner will ignore furious Villa fans protests to make McLeish new manager

Aston Villa chairman Randy Lerner will not be dissuaded by angry fans protests over the appointment of Alex McLeish.

The Scottish Sun says around 1,000 angry supporters stormed the gates of Villa Park last night as Big Eck was locked in talks with club owner Randy Lerner 100 miles away in London.

The Villa faithful made their feelings heard with obscene chants about McLeish and even unveiled offensive banners, while West Midlands Police opened the ground's gates on safety grounds.

There was also graffiti sprayed on the wall of Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground.

But a Villa source said: "This will not put Mr Lerner off. He will make up his own mind and the actions of those fans, while within their rights, makes no difference.

"He knows it is about getting the right man to take the club forward."
