Leonardo Semplici tribute to SPAL fans after six-year spell ends

Leonardo Semplici says he leaves SPAL without bitterness.

The coach was sacked on Monday and replaced by Gigi di Biagio.

"I have thought a lot, but the words, the right ones, in moments like this, struggle to come out," wrote Semplici in an open letter.

“Six years has passed from the time that I got acquainted with this magnificent city. Six years since I embraced the fans and these colours that have accompanied me since then.

“Six years of dedication, of courage, of respect for the SPAL project.

“I am proud to have reached unthinkable objectives, proud and happy to have had the possiblility to work in a club like this.

“This is certainly not the finale that I would have wanted, that I had hoped for.

“I am sorry to have finished my path in Ferrara, but I want to thank you all so much for the warmth and the hospitality of a city that I will carry in my heart, and which will always be my second home.

“I would like to thank the Colombarini family, the President, the directors, the players, the doctors, the physiotherapists and the backroom staff and all those who collaborated to achieve our objectives.

“A particular thank you to all my staff that have shared with me this extraordinary journey. I wish you all the best.

“Forza SPAL."
