Lens have snapped up released Newcastle United midfielder Massadio Haidara.

Sky Sports says Haidara has joined French side RC Lens on a three-year deal.

The left-back was released by Newcastle this summer after making just 54 appearances in five-and-a-half years at St James' Park.

Haidara struggled with injuries in recent years and played just five times in the past two seasons under Rafael Benitez.

The 25-year-old was not offered a new deal by the Magpies and will try and rebuild his career in Ligue 2.
