Leiva's Liverpool move yet to be rubberstamped

Liverpool's deal for Gremio midfielder Lucas Leiva is still to be rubberstamped.

The transfer is dependent on Leiva acquiring the necessary documents allowing him to play in England and the Reds reserve the right to cancel the move if they cannot secure the player's eligibility.

Liverpool officials have been working to secure an Italian passport for Leiva and Benitez is hopeful all the documentation will be in place in time to allow the player to link up with the squad this week.

Benitez said: "He is the captain of the Brazil Under 20 side and won the Golden Boot in his country last year, so we know he has quality. We also believe he has the mentality and the character you need to do well in England."
