Leicester veteran Evans unsure about next season

Jonny Evans is yet to hear from Leicester City about a new contract.

The Ulsterman is off contract next month.

After relegation was confirmed, Evans said: “There's not been any negotiations. There's always been a casual conversation. I understand I was injured for a long time, and while I was injured, it was very difficult, with my age, to have those sorts of conversations.

“The conversations I had with the club were about trying to get back onto the pitch. When the new manager came in, his message to me was to try to get myself ready as well as I could in the chance that I was needed.

“I've loved my time here. It's been an amazing five years. I said that to the boys inside. The club have decisions to make and I don't think it's time for that now. They probably don't know what they're going to do.

“I had a brief chat with (director of football) Jon Rudkin and I understand that the club are in limbo. I'm sure they'll make the right decisions and, for everyone involved, I hope the club can get back to where we all feel it should be. I've said before it's a fantastic club and I believe they will be back."

Of his playing future, he also said: “I don't know. You never know. It's been a difficult season. I don't know what is going to happen next season with myself personally. I have two international matches in June for Northern Ireland and I'll probably assess things after that.

"I picked up one or two injuries in October and then there was a knock-on effect of that when I was coming back to training, I was probably pushing too much and felt like I was playing catch-up and maybe overextending myself and reinjuring myself quite a bit."
