Thomas is shining for Beaglehole's team after joining from Coventry City.
A loan move in January is now mootd.
“The next step for him in January will be to go out on loan or, who knows, if he keeps making the impact he is making being in around the first team," said Beaglehole.
“That is the pathway he has decided to take. I am sure in time it will prove to be the right one for him."
He added: “He knew there was a big gap between Coventry's and our first team, but I have always said the under-23s get poorly criticised by some football people who say it isn't competitive enough.
“I am not sure about that because George said when he came in he was amazed at the standard.
“He found it difficult early on because he had missed a lot of pre-season games because the transfer was being lined up.
“He wasn't match fit and he didn't find it easy, but I think he has developed really well. He has a fantastic attitude."
