Leicester midfielder Maddison: I apologise to the fans for today

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison has apologised after defeat at home to Bournemouth.

An error from Maddison that allowed Philip Billing to score the only goal of the game. The result leaves the Foxes relegation zone and lifting rivals Bournemouth to safety.

"It was a really tough one to take," Maddison told Sky Sports. "I am very low at the moment. We knew it was a big game and didn't try and dress it up as anything else. We've worked really hard. I made a sloppy mistake and it cost us. I am very low.

"I'm always hungry to do well for the team. I tried to erase it and not do too much to make up for it. It wasn't to be today. It is a sore one.

"I am very low and sad in defeat because my mistake sort of cost the team. We have to dust ourselves down and go again. I'll be sad tonight and probably tomorrow but we'll get going again on Monday. It is so important we stay positive. We'll try and rally the troops.

"I apologise to the fans for today, I thought they were brilliant. It is not brilliant for us in terms of results and performances aren't quite there at the moment but it is important the fans stick with us.

"There is still a long way to go. It is tight down there. I would have preferred to win today. It wasn't a make or break. There is still plenty of points to play for."
