Leicester City have emerged as favourites to sign Sheffield Wednesday youngster George Hirst.

The Foxes, who have failed with an initial bid of £1m, have reportedly placed a new £2m bid for the 18-year-old, who has also been watched by Manchester United and Everton.

Hirst, who is considered among the best youth talents in the country, made two substitute appearances for the Owls last season.

He also impressed in England's U-18 side that won the Toulon tournament in June.
