Leicester defender Maguire: Contract was reward for great season

Leicester City defender Harry Maguire believes his new contact was a reward for a great season.

The 25-year-old joined Leicester from Hull City for £17m in the summer of 2017. He experienced a fantastic debut season at the King Power which culminated being included in England's World Cup squad.

It only got better for Maguire as he starred for England in Russia and was recently included in the 55-man shortlist for FIFPro's World XI for 2017/18.

And the centre-back, who was linked with Manchester United this summer, had no qualms over signing the new five-year contract.

"Yes definitely," he said. "Obviously after the World Cup, I came back and sat down with the owners and they reiterated what they wanted to do.

"They wanted to reward me for a great season and obviously a successful World Cup with England.

"I'm looking forward to the future now and to see where we can go as a club."
