Leicester boss Rodgers confirms Amartey not leaving

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers does not believe Daniel Amartey is going anywhere.

The Ghanian has played the past two games for City, in the Carabao Cup against Arsenal and Premier League against Manchester City.

While Leicester are looking at signing James Tarkowski from Burnley, it appears Amartey will stay for this season as well.

"I spoke to him briefly in terms of how well he'd been training and then he felt the confidence of coming into the game," Rodgers told reporters after his side's 5-2 win over Man City on Sunday.

"I wanted to see how he would do because he'd done so well in training. It was no different to Cags, when I came in, he wasn't in the squad, but he really impressed me in training. Daniel was the same.

"He's worked his way back to a really good level. He has shown an incredible level of fitness this last week to play against Arsenal and then Manchester City on Wednesday and Sunday in his first games for two years. It shows how hard he's worked, and the trust I had in him to put him in. It's a great credit to him and the work he's done.

"Most definitely (he will be a part of the squad). We still need to strengthen because it's a long season and if you pick up an injury or two, all of a sudden you're bare. That's probably what disrupted us towards the end of last season.

"We want to have quality on the field and quality on the outside ready to come in."
