Leeds U23 coach Jackson happy with EFL Trophy defeat of Oldham

Leeds United U23 coach Mark Jackson was pleased with their 3-2 EFL Trophy win against Oldham Athletic last night.

The Whites picked up the three points in an entertaining victory, which saw them score three goals along the way, giving them a chance to qualify going into the final match.

“It was fantastic for the boys to get the win tonight," Jackson told the club's website.

“We challenged them to go out and get the three points because we knew we needed that to have any chances of progressing in the competition.

“We're really, really pleased they could execute the challenge of getting the three points but also with the way we played and the way we applied ourselves in the game."

After looking a constant threat throughout and having multiple chances in the match, Jackson had nothing but praise for the way in which his side performed on the night.

He said: We tried to play our way and I thought we showed really strong elements of our identity within the game tonight.

“We wanted to try and exploit them in wide areas.

“We wanted to get players between the lines to try and receive and there were really good patterns of play, particularly in the second half where we played through them.

“That was credit to the players for recognising those patterns and recognising those opportunities to play through.

“The combinations in wide areas to create chances was pleasing, maybe our end product could have been a bit better.

“Overall it was a really promising performance from the group of players tonight."
