Leeds chief Kinnear: We knew Southampton forward Adams wasn't available

Leeds United chief Angus Kinnear admits they were never in a position to sign Che Adams from Southampton.

The Championship side wanted to improve their attacking options for the rest of the season, as they chase promotion.

But they were unable to secure the attacker, given the Saints had only signed him in the summer for £15 million.

Adams has still not scored for Southampton this season.

Speaking about Leeds' interest in the striker, chief Kinnear said: "So I know the window was dominated with headlines around Che Adams, Dwight Gayle, Andre Gray and Jarrod Bowen.

"Actually, they're all avenues that we explored. But you find out quite quickly whether they're available or not available.

"Although the media speculation ran and ran, actually all those clubs said those players weren't available pretty early on."
