Liverpool assistant boss Sammy Lee says beating Real Madrid earlier this season could set the club up for a trophy-laden era.

"Post Madrid, there was a surge of confidence, having beaten one of the best clubs in the world," he said. "If any of the players had any sort of doubts, then those games gave them an added sense of belief.

"Maybe it was a watershed moment for many."
