Sheffield Wednesday's Alan Irvine has been named the League One Manager of the Month for August. The Owls, relegated from the Championship at the end of last season, have made a strong start to their quest for an immediate return to the second tier.

And Irvine has been recognised for his achievements with the first monthly honour of the season.

Chairman of the npower Manager of the Month awards panel Alan Curbishley said: "Alan Irvine deserves special praise for the way he has galvanised Sheffield Wednesday after the disappointment of relegation last season.

"Alan has got the whole side performing well, with nine goals scored and just one conceded throughout August."
