Southampton great Matt Le Tissier says Andy Carroll can help Newcastle United turn results around.

The former West Ham striker has returned to Newcastle as a free agent.

Le Tissier told Sky Sports: “He'll (manager Steve Bruce) be desperate for Andy Carroll to get somewhere near match fitness, just to have someone there who could possibly lift the crowd.

“An old fan favourite going back there, if he can get him fit and stay fit, he may just be the one player who can make a difference to the atmosphere in the stadium.

“However I agree with Charlie (Nicholas) as it looks like this situation will only be resolved when the owner leaves as there doesn't seem to be any other way out."
